Sacramento Kings rookie Darius Acuff Jr. endured an inconsistent Summer League, leaving at least one NBA scout concerned about his readiness for the upcoming season.

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the No. 7 overall pick struggled through five games between the California Classic and Las Vegas.

The former Arkansas point guard shot 35% from the field and 27% from three-point range while averaging 20.8 points. He also recorded 23 assists but committed 19 turnovers.

Despite the uneven showing, one Western Conference scout noted that poor Summer League performances are not unusual for young guards, though he believed Acuff’s struggles stood out more than those of the other lottery selections.

“A lot of rookie guards will struggle at summer league; it’s not the end of the world. But [Acuff] was the loudest of the [rookie lottery guards] struggling,” the scout said.

“His defense wasn’t great, and his floor game was rough at times. I don’t care that much about bad shooting. What did Steph [Curry] shoot in summer league? No one remembers. It’s a couple games.”
