Spencer Miles' breakout rookie campaign this season with the Toronto Blue Jays has made him a standout Rule 5 draft pick. The 26-year-old has an impressive 2.65 ERA across 91.2 innings and hasn't given up a run in his last 14 outings. 

With a taxed pitching staff, Miles has been an important part of the mix as his versatility has allowed manager John Schneider to utilize him as a starter, opener, in bulk relief and even to close out games.

Miles pitched two scoreless innings of relief against the Detroit Tigers in the Blue Jays' 5-1 victory on Wednesday. If they continue to extend his workload he could make a solid starter. There has already been discussion regarding him being a future potential starter, and Schneider has agreed that he has what it takes to be a future part of the rotation. 

His arsenal includes an elite sinker and curveball that's generated a putaway rate of 25.8%, which illustrates he has the skills to be a starter. In addition, his reliability this season has instilled trust that's allowed Schneider to use him in high-leverage situations, which is also preparing him for the possible transition.

Across 47 games, the right-hander owns a 6-2 record with two saves. He's compiled 87 strikeouts across 91.2 innings. He's posted a ground ball rate of 51.2% and a 3.5% barrel rate. He also reached a career-high 100 mph with his slider against the Cleveland Guardians on Sept. 1. 

After dealing with Tommy John and back surgeries, he has transformed into a unique multi-inning weapon whose pitching run value of 21 sits in the 96th percentile. 

He's only allowed five home runs with a 0.49 HR/9 and has also held a solid 2.36 BB/9 with a 2.73 FIP and a 1.8 WAR. With only nine games remaining for the Blue Jays, his continued dominance will be vital as the team attempts to battle for a final AL wild-card spot.
