Released last year, the State 4130 Trail is a refreshing option in a sea of increasingly expensive bikes. It features a double-butted 4130 Chromoly steel frame, fixed UDH dropouts, Boost hub spacing, a threaded bottom bracket, external cables, dropper-post routing, and a 130mm fork. The frame lacks rack mounts but has two bottle mounts inside the main triangle and three-pack mounts under the downtube for additional cargo.

Skyler Des Roches reviewed it earlier this year and praised its amazing value, fit, and robust frame. Of course, any budget bike comes with its shortcomings, but it’s hard to argue with its $1,500 price tag.

State Bicycle Co. just announced a new color option called Sagebrush Green. Nothing else has changed about the bike, and it’s available in two build kits and a frame + fork option. The $1,500 build includes Tektro HD-M275 hydraulic brakes, a RockShox Psylo Silver RC 130mm fork, and a 1×11 MicroShift XLE drivetrain. It doesn’t come with a dropper post, but State offers a dropper post add-on, plus upgraded wheels, touchpoints, and brakes, for those who want them.

For $1,999, the 4130 Trail comes equipped with a base-level SRAM Eagle Transmission drivetrain, a State-branded crankset, and the same RockShox Psylo Silver RC fork. You can upgrade the WTB i30 TCS 29″ wheelset to an Industry Nine Sector Carbon (1/1) and upgrade to a PNW Range Dropper and Lever or a Seekrun S7 Wireless Dropper bundle. The frame alone costs just $495, and you can add on the RockShox fork for an additional $385.
