Terence Crawford has been linked to a comeback in recent weeks, with Dana White adding more fuel to the fire on Saturday. Now, Crawford has responded to White, who claimed that he would return to action ‘for the right fight’.

Crawford hung up the gloves last December, but over the last month he has reignited his rivalry with unified super-welterweight world champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, and birthed a new one with reigning WBC welterweight titleholder Ryan Garcia.

On Saturday, Crawford watched on as Garcia made a first successful defence of his WBC 147lb belt and easily dispatched of Conor Benn inside two rounds, before ‘King Ry’ gunned for Crawford in the post-fight press conference. 

When quizzed on Crawford’s potential return, White insinuated that he believes he could tempt ‘Bud’ out of retirement for the ‘right fight’, in a clip captured by Fight Hub TV.

“There is always a number. For a guy like Crawford it’s more than just a number, it’s the right fight.”

In response, Crawford told Seconds Out that he does not know who ‘the right fight’ would be and seemed uninterested in making a comeback, going on to admit that his recent call-out of Ennis was not a serious one.

“I heard [White say that] and I still don’t know what fight he is talking about. So, I’m like ‘OK’.”

“I just made a valid point [when I called out Boots on social media]. You say you won’t fight Vergil [Ortiz Jr,] or Canelo because you are belt hunting, then you turn around and say you will fight a retired fighter?

“It just made it clear as day that you don’t wanna fight Vergil at all.” 

Garcia and Ennis each look set to move on to unification clashes, with the former seeking a shot at WBA welterweight ruler Teofimo Lopez, and the latter hoping to add a third belt to his collection in a rumoured December bout with IBF super-welterweight champion Josh Kelly.
