This September, Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn will collide atop a blockbuster bill in Las Vegas, with the WBC welterweight world title on the line. Now, Terence Crawford, who ruled as the undisputed champion of the division in 2023, has explained why he believes Benn will pull off the upset.

Garcia dethroned Mario Barrios in an impressive performance back in February, capturing world honours at the third time of asking, after failing in scheduled title bids against Devin Haney and Rolando Romero in the two fights prior.

Meanwhile, Benn has not fought at welterweight since April 2022, with a below-par performance in a 150lb catchweight clash with Regis Prograis earlier this year leading to concerns as to whether he will be able to perform at 147lbs.

However, despite that display, Crawford told Uncrowned Combat that he is picking Benn to come out on top, believing that ‘The Destroyer’ has both the ‘size’ and the ‘power’ to put an early end to Garcia’s welterweight reign.

“I think that is a good fight. I think, of course, Ryan has got the experience, but I think that Conor has got the size and the power. I think that it’s going to be an interesting fight moving forward.

“I’m going to go with Conor, I think that he is going to upset him.”

Garcia-Benn will take place on Saturday, September 12, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, with undefeated cruiserweight poster boy, Jai Opetaia, anticipated to take part in the co-main event of the evening.
