Happy 63rd birthday to 10-time MLB All-Star, five-time Cy Young winner, 2001 World Series MVP and Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2015 inductee, Randy Johnson!

“The Big Unit,” began his MLB career as a member of the Montreal Expos in 1988 before getting dealt to the Seattle Mariners in 1989. He’d spend the next 8+ seasons in the Pacific Northwest and become one of the most intimidating pitchers in The Show. 

He won his first Cy Young award in 1995, racking up 294 strikeouts, posting an American League-best 2.48 ERA and a staggering 18-2 record. Johnson found himself a trade piece once again in 1998, going from Seattle to Houston before signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks ahead of the 1999 campaign. 

He’d post four-consecutive 300-K seasons in the desert, winning the National League Cy Young in each of those efforts and helping deliver the D-Backs their first World Series title against the vaunted New York Yankees in 2001. Johnson made three starts in that series, going 3-0 with a 1.04 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings.

Johnson made his final All-Star game in 2004, joined the New York Yankees for two seasons in 2005 before returning to Arizona and a stint in San Francisco before retiring after the 2009 season. 

He retired with 303 wins, 4,875 strikeouts with two no-hitters and a perfect game to his name.
