It’s late July, and that means baseball chatter is dominated by the looming trade deadline — now 12 days away on Aug. 3.
There is expected to be a lot of action in New York.
The disappointing Mets, who are 16 games under .500 and 9.5 back of the final NL wild-card spot, only can hope for a second half that shows some promise for 2027 after being sellers at the deadline.
The AL wild-card-leading Yankees will try to reinforce the roster for October, including addressing their struggling offense, adding bullpen depth and possibly looking for a shortstop solution (maybe a debut from George Lombard Jr.?).
