According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the San Francisco Giants are open to trade offers for a handful of players, including Luis Arraez, who will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. 

He is currently on a one-year, $12 million contract with the Giants. This season, the second baseman is batting .319 with two home runs, 26 RBI, five stolen bases and a .352 OBP. 

He also ranks in the 100th percentile, boasting a 41.7 percent squared-up rate, an 8.9 percent whiff rate and a 4.2 percent strikeout rate. As an elite contact hitter, he's upheld a stellar career batting average of .317. He's also a reliable defender, sitting in the 99th percentile with an Outs Above Average (OAA) of 10. 

Overall, this makes him a stabilizing asset and choice for teams to acquire his pure and clutch hitting abilities, and uphold a batting average above .300. Let's explore three potential landing spots for the 29-year-old. 

Boston Red Sox

The Red Sox have the opportunity to improve if they get young cornerstone sophomore Roman Anthony back and in prime health. They will be riding on his success in order to make a turnaround. But the Red Sox can't rely solely on Anthony, meaning they need outside reinforcements and players like Marcelo Mayer to improve their offensive consistency. 

With the Giants being open to selling, this is the perfect chance for the Red Sox to capitalize on acquiring Arraez, as they are in dire need of an offensive boost. Evidently, his dominant contact ability makes him an ideal candidate for the Red Sox. 

Despite the Red Sox being in last place in the AL East, Arraez would provide them with a short-term commitment spark that would enhance their offense and provide solid defense at second base. With the three-time All-Star's contract expiring, this means the Red Sox wouldn't have to commit to a long-term financial deal.

He would provide the Red Sox with a reliable leadoff hitter, which would allow manager Chad Tracy to adjust the batting order. This is achieved by moving down some of their power hitters to optimize their offensive output. 

New York Yankees

The Yankees have been linked to Arraez as a significant upgrade for lineup versatility. Adding his high-contact offense and strong defense at second would allow them to move Jazz Chisholm Jr. to third base. 

The fact that Arraez's defense has massively improved has increased his value. This ultimately makes him a strong fit for a contending team like the Yankees. They remain in second place in the AL East, looking to upgrade their offense with a high-contact hitter who provides solid defense. 

This has become an urgent hole to fill due to injuries to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, who provide elite power and high-impact offense. 

His .319/.352/.435 slash line would help boost the Yankees offense and mesh well with Ben Rice's elite power that's been red hot. He hit his 19th home run to help surge the Yankees to an 8-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. 

San Diego Padres

A reunion possibility with the San Diego Padres and Arraez remains highly speculated. With Fernando Tatis Jr. showing signs of life at an optimal time, the Padres would maximize on acquiring him as the Giants could potentially trade him at the deadline if they remain out of contention this season. 

They are currently 29-43 and fourth in the NL West, 8.5 games out of a wild-card spot, looking to be sellers at the deadline. A San Diego return could happen for several reasons. 

For starters, the Padres are actively looking for ways to uplift the struggles that Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill are going through this season. Arraez is fond of the San Diego fan base and would love the chance to return and play in a familiar environment. 

The Padres front office would maximize on the career .304 batting average with 340 hits, 12 homers, 102 RBI and 127 runs scored in 271 games he provided for the team across two full seasons. From May 2024 through the end of the 2025 season, he was an integral contributor to its playoff success.
