Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayMinnesota Timberwolves president Tim Connelly says the risk of being fired won't stop him from making bold moves. Connelly is entering the final season of his contract and has reshaped the roster every year since 2022.
"If it doesn't work and it's my job, I'll get fired," said Connelly. "That's fine. But I don't ever want to be in a position where we're reluctant to take big swings."
Connelly has turned down other opportunities and said his family is happy in Minnesota.
Connelly made more big changes this summer after a second-round loss to the San Antonio Spurs. Minnesota traded Julius Randle and Naz Reid, acquired LaMelo Ball and signed Jonathan Kuminga.
"My industry has become so risk-averse," said Connelly. "They're so concerned about real-time analysis (from the media). ... In all reality, either you're trying to win, or you're chasing that."
Connelly has made at least one major deal every season since leaving the Denver Nuggets. Six weeks into the job, he traded five players, four first-round picks and a pick swap for Rudy Gobert. In 2024, Connelly sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks for Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a first-round pick.
Last February, Connelly traded Rob Dillingham, the No. 8 pick in 2024, to the Chicago Bulls for Ayo Dosunmu. Over four years, Connelly's major trades have used six first-round picks, five first-round swaps and seven second-round picks.
Minnesota has made the playoffs in each of Connelly's four seasons and won at least one series in each of the last three. The Wolves lost in five games in the Western Conference finals in both 2024 and 2025.
Anthony Edwards, 25, has played with a different supporting cast in each of the past three seasons.
"It means a lot," said Edwards. "We've had, what, three different teams going into three different years. So hopefully we can settle in with this squad."
