A scary end to Saturday’s UFC Vegas 121 event left fans worried, but there is some good news on the status of Raoni Barcelos.

Barcelos shared the Octagon with Raul Rosas Jr. inside the UFC Apex. He was up on all three judges’ scorecards prior to the final round. In what appeared to be a routine takedown for Rosas, it was quickly discovered that something went wrong. Barcelos was down on the canvas and wasn’t moving.

The fight was stopped and Barcelos stretchered out of the venue. It was a frightening scene, but UFC has confirmed that Barcelos is stable.

“Following his fight tonight, Raoni Barcelos was immediately transported to a Level 1 trauma center for evaluation.

‘The hospital medical team conducted a CT scan and comprehensive assessment, and he is currently being monitored. Barcelos is stable, alert and responsive, with full movement. He will remain under medical supervision. We will provide updates on his condition as they become available.”

Barcelos’ coach Davi Ramos also spoke about the situation on his Instagram account. Ramos shared that while Barcelos awaits further testing, he is doing quite well considering how bad things appeared in the moment (h/t Fight Talk).

“Raoni is doing well. He has regained full consciousness, he can move his legs, his arms, and his hands; he is alert, he is talking. Everything is fine with him. He is still undergoing a few more tests, and very soon he will be here to speak with you.”

Many believe Barcelos’ loss was the most scary ending to an MMA fight in quite some time. Some have shared theories on what caused the 28-fight veteran to slump over during the bout-ending sequence, but it’s all speculation at this time.
