UFC heavyweight fan favorite Derrick Lewis shared footage of his live reaction to Dana White’s White House fight pitch.

The UFC’s historic card on the White House lawn is weeks away as Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje headline a stacked event. After U.S. President Donald Trump requested UFC head Dana White to organize an event at the White House, White made it come to fruition with seven intriguing matchups.

But the card was initially supposed to feature just six fights, before heavyweight fan favorite Derrick Lewis got the last-minute call from White to fight Josh Hokit at the White House. Just minutes after Josh Hokit won against Lewis’ former rival Curtis Blaydes at UFC 327, White got a suggestion from the U.S. President cageside to get Lewis on the card.

Lewis vs. Hokit was booked Octagonside at UFC 327, with White calling Lewis while the sitting U.S. President sat just a few feet away. It was an unprecedented moment as Lewis vs. Hokit added depth to a star-studded event.

At the UFC 327 post-fight press conference, White shared his version of the call to Lewis while sitting cageside. Lewis shared his live reaction/call with White on his social media pages.

In a recent Instagram post, Lewis shared a video of his phone call with White as the UFC headman sat alongside the U.S. President at UFC 327.

Lewis will look to get back on track after a recent TKO loss to Waldo Cortes-Acosta at UFC 324 earlier this year. Before the Cortes-Acosta defeat, Lewis earned back-to-back wins over Tallison Teixeira and Rodrigo Nascimento.

Meanwhile, Lewis will look to stop Hokit’s steep surge and unbeaten run inside the Octagon. Before defeating Blaydes, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum earned wins over Max Gimenis and Denzel Freeman.
