The Washougal 450 battle took a controversial turn in moto 2 when Jett was penalized for leaving the track. Jett did not appear to gain a position and had already lost time in the incident, making the decision difficult to understand. The penalty meant that even if Jett crossed the finish line first, he would not be credited with the moto victory or the overall. The penalty dropped Jett to third in the official results, handing Hunter the moto victory and the overall win.
