Tom Curran produced a sensational late spell for Edinburgh Castle Rockers in their European T20 Premier League (ETPL) 2026 clash against Belfast Wolves. With Belfast struggling to keep up with the required rate, Curran struck twice in the 16th over before returning to complete a historic hat-trick in the 18th over. The hat-trick helped Edinburgh bowl Belfast out for 130 in 17.1 overs and secure a commanding 59-run victory.

Tom Curran produces historic hat-trick

Curran’s first hat-trick wicket came when Fred Klaassen attempted to take on a short delivery. The ball climbed towards the batter, who tried to hook it but could only send it high towards deep square leg. Ross Adair completed the catch, sending Klaassen back for four off five balls.

Curran then produced a brilliant delivery with the final ball of the 16th over to dismiss Matthew Humphreys. The ball was back of a length and skidded through his defence before crashing into the top of middle stump. Humphreys departed without scoring. That left Curran needing one more wicket to create ETPL history, although he had to wait until his next over.

The hat-trick arrived with the first delivery of the 18th over. Curran bowled a slower off-cutter to Mark Adair, who attempted to hit it towards the leg side but failed to get enough power. The ball went high towards deep mid-wicket, where Ross completed another tumbling catch. Adair was dismissed for 14 off 11 balls, giving Curran the first hat-trick in ETPL history.

JJ Smuts powers Edinburgh Castle Rockers to memorable win

Earlier, JJ Smuts produced a magnificent batting display to help Edinburgh Castle Rockers post 189/5 in their 20 overs. The South African all-rounder scored 98 off 60 balls, smashing 11 fours and three sixes. Brandon McMullen added a quick 30 off 16 balls, while captain Mitchell Santner finished the innings with an unbeaten 25 off 13 deliveries.

Belfast Wolves struggled during their chase despite Glenn Maxwell scoring 35 off 23 balls and David Miller contributing 20. Trent Boult had earlier claimed three wickets for 16 runs to leave Belfast in trouble at 37/3. Curran then completed the job with his historic hat-trick, finishing with excellent figures of 4/20 from 3.1 overs as Edinburgh secured a 59-run victory. The match also featured an unusual subplot involving brothers Ross and Mark, who played for opposite teams. Mark had earlier dismissed Ross, while Ross later completed the catch to dismiss Mark.
