The UFC made its debut in Serbia on Saturday for a solid UFC Belgrade card. In the main event, welterweight contenders Uros Medic and Daniel Rodriguez threw down in a fan-friendly fight.

Medic, who hails from Serbia, entered the bout on a three-fight winning streak and was coming off a KO win over Geoff Neal. Rodriguez, meanwhile, was on a three-fight winning streak but had spent the last several months in jail in Mexico.

Ultimately, it was Medic who made quick work of Rodriguez as he cruised to a 30-second TKO win to send his Serbian fans home happy. Following UFC Belgrade, here is what I think should be next for the welterweight contenders.

Uros Medic

Uros Medic has seemingly turned his career around. Medic was a fan-friendly lightweight but wasn’t a true contender, but a move to welterweight has changed that. After a surprising 31-second KO loss to Punahele Soriano back in  January of 2025, he has since rallied off four straight wins and is coming off his first UFC main event.

With the win, Medic should get a top-10 opponent next, as he was ranked 14th entering the event and beat Rodriguez, who was ranked 15th. Medic called out former champion Leon Edwards, and that is a fight that makes a ton of sense. Medic didn’t take any damage, and he could make a quick turnaround if needed. The two could fight in October at UFC 332 in Salt Lake City or UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi later that month, but Medic vs. Edwards should be next.

Daniel Rodriguez

Daniel Rodriguez was going into enemy territory after getting out of Mexican prison recently. Rodriguez had a chance to cement himself as a true contender, but he fell short as he got caught early and finished in 30 seconds, which was a disappointing result.

Rodriguez is ranked 15th and will likely have to fight someone unranked next. A logical next bout is to take on Ramiz Brahimaj, who’s set to take on Neil Magny later this month. Win or lose, Brahimaj makes sense as both are on the fringes of the top-15.
