Daniel is an experienced football writer and editor, having worked in the football media industry for over a decade. 

After voluntarily writing for Fresh Press for two years, helping to build and establish the Read brand, Daniel started a part-time job with Fresh Press that later turned into a full-time writing and editing role, writing for club-specific pages such as Read Norwich, Read Celtic, Read Liverpool, and Read Arsenal.

Daniel spent just shy of a year writing and editing for Liverpool-based website, Anfield Watch, which included conducting and/or transcribing interviews with Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, former Wycombe striker Adebayo Akinfenwa, and journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Since the summer of 2021, Daniel has worked for Snack Media (now Valnet) and has been a contributor to Football FanCast, on a freelance and full-time basis, as a writer and editor. 

Daniel is a Norwich City fan and season ticket holder. He has been heard on BBC Norfolk and helped DAZN with research for their commentary due to his knowledge of the club, along with being featured in several local papers across the country, including the Coventry Telegraph and the Liverpool Echo, for Norwich-related content. 

Daniel's knowledge extends to Scottish football, having covered Celtic and Rangers for several years. He particularly enjoys producing player analysis and producing transfer content.

Daizen Maeda's £10m move to Ipswich Town was confirmed on Saturday and that is set to pave the way for Kasper Hogh to join the club from Bodo/Glimt for a fee in excess of £11m.

The Denmark international looks set to be the club's marquee signing of the summer transfer window in a deal that could be a club-record if add-ons are achieved.

Hogh may not be the only signing on the horizon, though, as the club have also been in talks with Paderborn over a move for central midfielder Mika Baur.

How Mika Baur became a star at Paderborn

The Germany U21 international would be an intriguing addition to Martin O'Neill's squad as a midfielder who can offer a threat as both a scorer and a creator of goals.

Baur started his career with Bundesliga side Freiburg and was unable to break into their first-team in the top-flight, which led to him being sold to Paderborn for a nominal fee in the summer of 2024.

He then struggled for minutes in the first-half of the 2024/25 2. Bundesliga campaign and was sent out on loan to Dynamo Dresden in the third tier, before returning to play a starring role last term.

Baur had to drop down the leagues in Germany to gain experience before finally shining in a Paderborn team that won promotion to the Bundesliga last season, racking up four goals and five assists in the process.

His journey highlights the benefits of taking a step back to then take two steps forward, as he was able to develop and hone his skills by playing in an environment that allowed him to flourish.

Celtic closing in on a more exciting signing than Mika Baur

That point should also be kept in mind when looking at another one of the club's targets, as they aim to land a star who is even more exciting than Baur.

Journalist George Tsarouchas reports that Celtic are closing in on the signing of Haissem Hassan from Real Oviedo in the summer transfer window.

The reporter claims that the Egypt international has already accepted a contract offer from the Scottish giants, who put a four-year deal on the table for him.

Fellow journalist Fuad Alakbarov backs up this update by saying that the Hoops are set to seal a "huge signing", having reached an agreement with the Spanish side for a fee of up to €9m (£7.7m).

Like Baur, Hassan may have to take a step back, moving away from one of Europe's major leagues, to fulfill his potential in a dominant Celtic team that would provide him with the perfect platform to showcase his talent.

The 24-year-old played in LaLiga for Real Oviedo in the 2025/26 campaign, but he failed to nail down a starting berth on the flank and did not score a single goal for the Spanish side.

Hassan, unfortunately, was unable to deliver consistently at that level in Spain, just as Baur failed to make a breakthrough in the Bundesliga, and a move to Celtic to play for a team competing for titles could be the perfect next step for him.

The Egyptian winger, though, is far more exciting than the German midfielder because of the kind of player he could be for the Hoops, with both his dribbling and creative potential.

Despite only starting 20 matches, Hassan ranked in the top 27% of wingers in the division for xA (3.22) and the top 5% for successful dribbles (61), which shows that he has the potential to be an incredibly exciting winger for Celtic.

If he can consistently dribble past opposition defenders and create high-quality chances on at an impressive rate in limited minutes in a major European league, he could thrive in the final third in a ball-dominant Hoops side under O'Neill.

The left-footed right winger has huge potential, given his underlying numbers in LaLiga, and could be a fun player to watch if Celtic can help him to improve his goalscoring output.

Whilst Baur could be an excellent addition to the squad as a box-to-box midfielder, Hassan has the potential to be a superstar if he can add goals to his already-impressive dribbling and creative numbers.

That is why this could end up being a phenomenal signing for the Hoops if they can get this deal over the line alongside Hogh and Baur in the coming days.
