White Sox beat reporter Scott Merkin quoted manager Will Venable as he discussed Meidroth's absence.
"Tough decision and really one where obviously we want Chase in there and I think that if this was early in the summer, there would be absolutely no chance that we’d allow him to play. But we considered it because of how important this game is."
Sun-Times White Sox beat reporter James Fagan reported Friday that Meidroth is dealing with "left hamstring discomfort." Fagan further reported Friday that the initial hope was that Meidroth would return to the White Sox starting lineup on Saturday and Sunday with the Colorado Rockies starting left-handed pitchers.

Meidroth is 12th among MLB second basemen with a .986 fielding percentage. Randal Grichuk is the White Sox's starting left fielder and is batting third.
Antonacci, a left-handed hitter, is batting .275 with a .368 on-base percentage, .393 slugging percentage and a .761 on-base plus slugging, with eight home runs, 48 runs batted in and 19 stolen bases in 2026. Grichuk is hitting .304/.331/.599 with a .390 OPS, 14 HRs and 41 RBI in 99 games with the White Sox.
Chase Meidroth's 2026 season
Meidroth is second on the White Sox with a 4.4 Wins Above Replacement, behind third baseman Miguel Vargas' 5.4. Meidroth is batting .275/.350/.413 with a .763 OPS, 16 HRs and 63 RBI in 2026. In his second MLB season, Meidroth has improved significantly.
