The 2026 MLB trade deadline lands on Aug. 3. The New York Yankees may not have that long to wait to address the roster.

Wednesday was another disappointment for the Yankees as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the Rays at Tropicana Field. That loss leaves the Yankees with a 5-15 record since June 18, having scored a total of 56 runs. As Bryan Hoch from MLB.com noted, both marks are the worst in the majors in that timeframe.

The Yankees issues go beyond the loss of outfielder Aaron Judge. Their lineup has been historically futile in regard to making contact. Outfielder Cody Bellinger and first basemen Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt have been among the worst players in the majors during the Yankees' slump. As the Yankees need Rice and Bellinger to step up in Judge's absence, their struggles are all the more pronounced.

New York Yankees need reinforcements — now

The Yankees have clear holes in the lineup. Third base and catcher have been black holes offensively throughout the season as Ryan McMahon and Austin Wells have contributed virtually nothing. Former top prospect Jasson Dominguez has continued to struggle against major league pitching. Judge, who does not have an official timeframe to return to the lineup, is not going to cure all of the Yankees' ills.

Likewise, the Yankees do not have the luxury to wait for his return. Although a weak American League, with only six teams above .500 entering Wednesday, would seemingly ensure that the Yankees will reach the postseason, that is not enough.

The Yankees are in the midst of their longest championship drought since their first World Series title in 1923. Unless the Yankees get aggressive and add to the roster soon, that streak could continue for another year.
