Blue Jays reliever Yimi García underwent surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome last week, manager John Schneider told reporters (relayed by Shi Davidi of Sportsnet). That’ll officially end his season.

This was the likeliest outcome when the Jays announced García’s TOS diagnosis a few weeks ago. Schneider suggested at the time that he was probably down for the rest of the year. García winds up losing the entire season, as his only game action consisted of nine minor league appearances on unsuccessful rehab stints.

García’s 2025 campaign was also cut short by an August surgery. That was a minor procedure to repair scar tissue in his elbow. García initially expressed optimism that he wouldn’t miss much time beyond Spring Training, but he landed on the 60-day injured list by the end of April. He tried rehabbing in May, June, and July and encountered repeated setbacks. García reported neck soreness which was evidently traced to the nerve condition.

The 36-year-old righty is wrapping up a two-year, $15MM free agent deal. He worked 21 innings of 3.86 ERA ball last year. It’s clearly not the outcome for which the team had hoped, as the various injuries prevented García from establishing himself in the setup mix. He’ll reach free agency at year’s end and likely be limited to minor league offers.
