Former UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja shared his first thoughts on his loss to Joshua Van at UFC 331.

UFC flyweight champion Joshua Van and former titleholder Alexandre Pantoja treated fans to arguably the greatest fight in the division’s history at UFC 331. After a five-round war, Van won by unanimous decision to retain the flyweight championship.

A heated buildup to the Van vs. Pantoja rematch fueled sky-high expectations as the two flyweights entered the Octagon. After watching their bout at UFC 331, it’s safe to say they surpassed lofty expectations.

But it was a disappointing setback for Pantoja after almost a full year away from the Octagon. An injury in the first Van vs. Pantoja fight left the former champion on the sidelines for one of the few times in his career.

Despite failing to return to the flyweight throne, Pantoja’s confidence hasn’t wavered.

In a recent Instagram post, Pantoja reacted to his performance at UFC 331.

“I’ll tell you something you already know: The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a nasty, cruel place. And it doesn’t care how tough you are. It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it,” Pantoja began.

“You, me, nobody hits as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done.

“Now if you know your worth, then go out and get what you deserve,” Pantoja continued. “But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And don’t point fingers and say you can’t because of him, her, or anybody. Cowards do that.”

Van will likely face Manel Kape for his next flyweight title defense, while Pantoja’s next move remains uncertain. Don’t be surprised if Pantoja runs it back for a third time with Van in the future.
