David Ornstein first revealed that Arsenal are exploring the possibility of signing the Real Madrid superstar, although no formal talks have yet taken place between the clubs.

Instead, the Gunners are watching developments around Vinícius' contract, with the Brazilian now entering the final year of his current deal and negotiations over an extension still unresolved.

Real remain determined to keep him, but they are equally aware they cannot risk losing one of the world's best players for nothing, and they're now in talks to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig as a potential replacement to add fuel to the fire.

Vinícius has developed into one of football's most devastating attackers since arriving from Flamengo.

His acceleration, dribbling, creativity and improved finishing have helped Real Madrid win a flurry of major titles, while he continues to produce consistently in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Last season, he once again delivered more than 20 goals in all competitions and remained one of the club's biggest attacking threats despite an inconsistent campaign collectively.

Bukayo Saka remains one of Arsenal's standout performers on the opposite flank, but adding another genuine world-class winger would elevate the squad even further.

Sporting director Andrea Berta recently managed to snap up Christos Tzolis, who bagged 22 goals and 29 assists in all competitions last season, from Club Brugge in a £34 million deal.

However, they missed out on top target Morgan Rogers after Chelsea agreed to pay £117 million to Aston Villa.

A deal for Vinicius would almost certainly remedy their Rogers heartache, and unlike with Rogers, Arsenal have a clear path to signing the Brazilian.

According to ESPN Deportes journalist Javier Rodríguez Pascual, Arsenal are the 'only' realistic destination for Vinícius if he leaves Real this summer.

Pascual says the Gunners have been studying the finances around this transfer for 'several days', following Ornstein's revelation that Arsenal are seriously exploring the opportunity.

He also claims Real's pursuit of highly-rated winger Diomande sends a message to Vinícius amid the ongoing uncertainty over his future, although any move would still depend on whether fresh terms are eventually agreed at the Bernabeu.

Crucially, there is still a long way to go.

Real continue to prioritise agreeing a new contract with Vinícius, while Arsenal have not yet opened club-to-club negotiations. The financial package involved would also be enormous, making this one of the most complicated transfers of the entire window.

Whether the move ultimately happens or not, the Gunners are clearly prepared to move if they believe there is even the slightest chance of securing this transformational signing.
