The dust has only just settled on a turbulent 2025/26 campaign for Glasgow Rangers, yet it's full steam ahead for Danny Rohl's side at Ibrox, with the transfer rumour mill in full swing.
The major talking point, undoubtedly, has been the capture of Hearts skipper, Lawrence Shankland, the Scotland striker arriving on a free transfer, after narrowly missing out on the title this season.
For some, this has been a deal years in the making, and one that has arguably happened at least 12 months too late, yet at a time when the Gers are prioritising Scottish or Premiership-proven signings, the 30-year-old ticks every box in that regard.
Fresh off the back of netting 16 league goals for Derek McInnes' side, Shankland could now lead the title charge under Rohl next season, with further deals also in the works for the Light Blues.
Rangers in fresh talks for another marquee signing after Shankland
Shankland, a scorer on nine occasions against Rangers in 29 career meetings, has so often been a thorn in the side of those at Ibrox, with his overall record in Edinburgh now standing at 88 goals in 171 games in all competitions.
He has now signed a two-year deal, with the option of an extra year, in order to make the move to Glasgow, jetting in to seal the switch ahead of his World Cup involvement this summer.
The key bonus too is that it won't cost the Gers a penny with regard to a transfer fee, with a clause in Shankland's contract ensuring he can move on for nothing this summer.
Such a statement move could be just the start of Rohl and co, however, with journalist Ben Jacobs reporting that the German is also leading the club's interest in re-signing Josh Windass from Wrexham.
According to Jacobs, Rangers have already begun fresh talks regarding a move for the 32-year-old, having previously pursued a deal back in January.
There haven't yet been negotiations with the Welsh outfit, after they previously rebuffed any interest earlier this year, although Rohl appears particularly keen on a reunion with his former Sheffield Wednesday talisman.
Why Windass signing could be a bigger coup than Shankland
There's no denying that a new centre-forward is a must for Rangers, with Bojan Miovski netting just seven Premiership goals all season, Ryan Naderi struggling for fitness across the last six months and the £8m Youssef Chermiti still a polarising presence, despite netting 15 Premiership goals to date.
Rangers' most expensive signings of all time
The Gers now have new owners in the 49ers Enterprises.
Chermiti's goals came in just eight games, seemingly scoring in bursts rather than finding any level of consistency, having also finished second in the division for big chances missed.
As his hat-trick on the final day showcased, however, there is a talent in there to be nurtured, with it yet to be seen whether Shankland's arrival will help or hinder his development.

Indeed, with Chermiti - who only finished one goal between the Scot in the league - at least showing signs of promise, the bigger priority arguably remains the signing of a creative spark behind him, hence why securing Windass' signature could be such a coup.
The Gers have long been crying out for a leading man in that number ten role, following the days of Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell, with Thelo Aasgaard and co just not cutting it this season.
Windass, who previously spent two years on the books at Ibrox, could be the perfect figure to fill that void, having proven such an asset both creatively and in front of goal himself in England's EFL.
This season, for instance, Wrexham's number ten actually outscored Chermiti with 16 goals in all competitions, 15 of which came in the Championship, having also registered seven assists in that time.
That run of form also saw the experienced marksman create ten 'big chances', a tally only bettered by James Tavernier (19) and Nicolas Raskin (12) back at Ibrox.
Where Windass also has the edge over Shankland, in particular, is that he has already proven that he can flourish in Rohl's set-up, having been the go-to man for the German at Hillsborough.
His 66 games under Rohl's watch yielded 27 goals and assists, with 18 of those goal involvements coming in the Championship in 2024/25.
A fluid, mobile forward who typically operates off a central striker, Windass has also shown that he can make a success of it at Ibrox too, notching 32 goals and assists in 73 games previously.
He did subsequently endure something of an acrimonious exit, amid frustrations over the lack of a new deal, although it was difficult not to be impressed by what the Englishman produced on the pitch prior to his 2018 departure.
Having already sparkled for both Rangers and for Rohl in his career to date, Windass could actually eclipse Shankland as the club's most notable and most influential signing of the summer.
