Kazuma Okamoto's rookie season with the Toronto Blue Jays has been a massive win, as he leads the team in home runs (31) and RBI (84). His 31 home runs also rank him second among all third basemen in MLB. 

Following his transition from the NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) League to MLB, Okamoto faced hurdles adjusting to MLB pitching. But it didn't take long for him to transform into an elite run producer for the Blue Jays.

Okamoto has seamlessly continued to make adjustments, which include a recent improved approach at the plate, taking his formidability to the next level. The 30-year-old Japanese star has shown great strike zone judgment, drawing more walks and also chasing less (27.9% overall chase rate). 

A huge transformation from when he faced early-season struggles, with a 34.1 % strikeout rate across his first 20 games. His improved overall strikeout rate of 29.7% has added to his revamped plate approach, which is an encouraging sign for the third baseman. 

Kazuma Okamoto has discovered the power of walks 

During his learning curve in May, Okamoto's chase rate peaked at 31.9%, as pitchers fooled him with breaking balls. But following his mid-season adjustment and second-half surge, his chase rate dropped to a much more respectable 21.4% during peak stretches. 

As well, during a 23-game stretch after his early-season struggles, he saw his walk rate ascend from 9.4% to 13.5%. On the season, he has recorded 50 walks, which is second on the Blue Jays behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (52). 

In his last 15 games, he has batted .300/.379/.680 and has drawn eight walks. Okamoto has notably been laying off more pitches outside of the strike zone, placing him in better hitting counts. In his last seven games, he has also boosted his on-base percentage to .483, while also sporting a stellar .880 OPS. 

Since Okamoto's mid-season adjustment period to North American pitching, he's been a key power source for the Blue Jays. On September 9, he made MLB history by becoming the fifth Japanese-born player to record 30 home runs in a season, continuing to impress in his dominant rookie campaign.
