The Chicago Bulls are continuing to reshape their organization under new head coach Tiago Splitter, adding three experienced assistants to the coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
According to NBA insider Michael Scotto, the Bulls are hiring Rex Kalamian, Jonah Herscu, and Blake Ahearn as assistant coaches. The trio brings decades of combined NBA and G League experience to a franchise that has undergone significant changes following a 31-51 campaign that ended with the Eastern Conference’s 12th-best record.

Kalamian arrives as the most experienced of the three additions. He has spent time on the coaching staffs of the Milwaukee Bucks, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, Toronto Raptors, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Denver Nuggets. His résumé includes working alongside multiple playoff teams and developing talent across rebuilding and contending organizations.
Herscu joins after serving as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers’ G League affiliate. He has also held assistant coaching positions with both the Trail Blazers and the Sacramento Kings, giving him experience at both the NBA and player-development levels.
Ahearn brings another strong developmental background. The former NBA guard most recently served as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies after previously leading the San Antonio Spurs’ G League affiliate as head coach.
The coaching additions come during a transformative offseason for Chicago. Splitter replaced Billy Donovan as head coach after the Bulls missed the playoffs with a 31-51 record, finishing 29 games behind Eastern Conference-leading Detroit. The front office has since focused on building around 23-year-old point guard Josh Giddey while adding experienced veterans and young prospects.
Giddey emerged as one of the league’s top playmakers last season, averaging 17.0 points, 9.1 assists and 8.3 rebounds in 54 games. Matas Buzelis also took a major step forward, starting all 77 appearances while posting 16.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
Chicago has aggressively reshaped its roster this offseason. The Bulls selected Caleb Wilson with the fourth overall pick and Dailyn Swain at No. 15 in the 2026 NBA Draft, while also adding Norman Powell.
