UFC contender Carlos Prates has called Islam Makhachev boring as he continues to push for a title shot later this year.

Islam Makhachev is still the UFC welterweight champion courtesy of his win over Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330. There are, of course, plenty of challengers waiting to get a crack at the belt, and that includes the always impressive Carlos Prates.

Prates has put together a fantastic run as of late and many believe that he has earned the right to fight for the championship – including Makhachev, who said that Carlos deserves a chance during the UFC 330 post-fight press conference.

In a recent interview, Prates had the following to say about Makhachev and his style ahead of a potential showdown.

Prates questions Makhachev’s style

“I think [Makhachev] is boring,” Prates said during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.

“I don’t like watching fights at all. Striking fights or some friends, of course, I like to watch. But especially if there’s a grappler fighting, I don’t like to watch. I like to watch people getting knockouts, a lot of action and things like that

“It’s crazy because now I really like to train grappling more than striking, but I don’t like to watch grappling and fighters going to the ground and boring fights.”

Carlos is easily one of the most dynamic strikers in the UFC today, and while that may mean he matches up well against Islam, we have seen Makhachev deal with two strikers pretty handily in his two appearances at welterweight thus far. If Prates is going to get the job done, he needs to bring something to the table that the champ has never seen before.
