Nicknamed ''The Magician,'' Esmerlyn Valdez is doing unimaginable things offensively for the Pittsburgh Pirates this season. At just 22-years-old, his power has made him a massive sparkplug. What started out as an instant spark has now become his natural charisma as a power threat. 

He's become just the fourth player since 1900 to record 10 home runs and 25 RBI across the first 27 games of his career before his 23 birthday. He's in elite company with Yordan Alvarez, Austin Riley and George Scott.

His performance has been off the charts and he is on an incredible pace with his power surge this season. The rookie outfielder is sporting a .310 batting average with a remarkable 1.092 OPS across 100 plate appearances.

His historical performance helped the Pirates sweep the Milwaukee Brewers in a double-header on July 11. He recorded four go-ahead hits, three go-ahead homers and one go-ahead grand slam, and no player in MLB history has ever put up statistics like that on the same day. Hitting three home runs across a double-header is a pretty miraculous feat.

Esmerlyn Valdez is owning up to his nickname as ''The Magician''

Valdez is a Dominican prospect whose midseason offense has exploded at a rapid pace earning him the nickname "The Magician" from Pirates announcers and fans as he possesses the ability to seamlessly make his tape-measure home runs vanish once they leave the park while also reaching high exit velocities. 

On the North Shore Nine (NS9) Postgame Show, co-host Doug Ford talked about how Valdez relishing his dominance. 

''He's not been overwhelmed by the moment," Ford said of Valdez. "He's just been this young, big, strong kid, and seems to be having the time of his life.''

His performance has been no fluke as his play has progressed beyond hot streak level. As a result, he's entered the NL Rookie of the Year conversation.

He's emerged as a core member of the Pirates whose plate discipline resembles an MLB player playing in their prime.

As far as Rookie of the Year goes, he has some hefty competition with JJ Wetherholt and Sal Stewart. While Valdez's 1.9 bWAR isn't at the level of Wetherholt's 3.9 bWAR it will be interesting to see his performance in the second-half of the season. He has continued to make MLB history after he also hit home runs in four consecutive games for the Pirates from June 26 to June 29.
