Everton have expressed an interest in signing a Premier League forward who 'was one of the best' before his injury problems, according to a report.

David-Moyes

A 1-0 defeat at Tottenham — a team fighting for their Premier League lives — brought the curtain down on a season that ended with a whimper.

Joao Palhinha's first-half header settled a tense affair at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Everton barely laid a glove on a side that had won just twice at home all year.

It was the fourth defeat in six games to close the campaign, a run that included losses to Sunderland, Liverpool and West Ham and extended the club's winless streak to seven matches — the joint-longest under David Moyes in the Premier League.

In their first season at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, a fresh chapter powered by the Friedkin Group's ambition and financial backing, the Toffees did mount a late push for Europe, but it fizzled out in the final weeks.

Moyes knows the squad still needs work.

The Friedkin Group have signalled they are willing to back him, and the early transfer activity suggests a summer of real intent.

As we have already reported on, TFG are prepared to fund a big-money striker signing, with Joshua Zirkzee, Troy Parrott and Alexander Sorloth all explored as potential options.

John Stones has also been linked with a return to Merseyside, with Moyes reported to be personally driving the pursuit.

Abdul Fatawu is also an apparent target after Sunderland's bid was rejected last summer.

But it is not just headline signings that win you games.

Sometimes, it is the experienced heads who fill the gaps that nobody notices until they are exposed. And one opportunity that has landed this week fits that description perfectly.

Everton eyeing free transfer for Solly March

According to TEAMtalk's Graeme Bailey, Everton are among a number of Premier League clubs who have expressed interest in signing Solly March following confirmation that Brighton will allow the 31-year-old to leave on a free transfer.

The Seagulls held an option to extend his contract by a further year but have chosen not to exercise it, bringing an end to a career at the Amex that spanned 13 years and over 300 appearances.

March would bring something Everton's squad has lacked this season: genuine tactical flexibility from a player with deep Premier League know-how.

The left-footed Englishman can operate as a right-winger, a wing-back or a midfielder, and his technical quality — particularly his delivery from wide areas — has been admired across the division for years.

A serious knee injury kept him out from May 2025 until February, but he is now fully fit and eager to prove he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

Fabian Hürzeler is on record this season praising his "special" left foot, and even going as far to say the owners believe March "was one of the best players in the Premier League" before his injury.

The competition for his signature is fierce, with several top-flight clubs and a number of Championship sides also circling, according to Bailey and TEAMtalk.

However, Everton can offer first-team football, a manager who values experience, and a club on the brink of what could be a transformative summer if the right pieces fall into place.

On a free transfer, with no fee to negotiate, March represents exactly the kind of smart, low-cost addition that could quietly make a real difference.

After the way the season ended, Moyes could use a few of those.
