Harry Brook has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Ben Stokes as England‘s next Test captain, but the discussion over his possible promotion has also sparked a wave of social media reactions. Among the loudest voices was Iceland Cricket, whose trademark satirical post on X quickly went viral after poking fun at the England batter’s off-field controversy from last year.

With England searching for a new red-ball leader following Stokes’ retirement from international cricket, Brook has publicly expressed his willingness to take on the responsibility, saying it would be a privilege to captain his country even if it meant leading across all three formats.

Iceland Cricket takes a jibe at Harry Brook

Known for its humorous and often sarcastic takes on international cricket, Iceland Cricket seized the opportunity to mock Brook’s reported captaincy prospects. The remark was a reference to reports from late 2025, when Brook was allegedly involved in a physical altercation outside a nightclub in Wellington just hours before England’s third ODI against New Zealand. The incident attracted significant media attention at the time and has continued to resurface whenever discussions about Brook’s leadership credentials emerge.

The post quickly gained traction online, with cricket fans reacting to the sharp-witted joke. Iceland Cricket has built a reputation over the years for producing viral content that blends cricket commentary with satire, and its latest dig at Brook was no exception.

“Harry Brook ready to lead England in all three formats. That’s nightclubs, beaches, and police stations,” wrote Iceland Cricket on X.

Brook on leading England in Tests

Despite the social media chatter, Brook has made it clear that he is fully prepared to step into the role if offered the opportunity. Speaking on Tuesday, the 27-year-old said it would be a “great honour” to captain England in Test cricket and revealed that Stokes had personally encouraged him to pursue the role. Brook disclosed that Stokes gave him his “100% support” to become England’s next Test captain during the outgoing skipper’s final press conference. The endorsement from one of England’s most successful modern captains has further strengthened Brook’s position as the frontrunner for the vacancy.

While no official announcement has been made, Brook is already set to captain England in the opening T20I against India at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street, adding another leadership opportunity to his growing résumé.

“It isn’t up to me, but if I were offered it, then I would be happy to take it. I don’t know yet (if it will happen), but it would be a great honour to do it. It would be a privilege to captain England in the highest format of our game and the pinnacle,” Brook said in the pre-match press conference.
