The Miami Heat and forward Keshad Johnson have agreed to a two-way contract, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Johnson returns after spending his first two NBA seasons with Miami.

The 25-year-old appeared in 32 games for the Heat in 2025-26, averaging 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.8 minutes while shooting 49.0% from the field. He also appeared in 48 NBA games across his first two seasons without making a start.

Johnson entered the offseason as a free agent after completing his previous stint with Miami. Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported before the agreement that Johnson continued working out with the Heat and had discussed returning either on a standard contract or a two-way deal.

A two-way contract allows Miami to retain a player already familiar with Erik Spoelstra’s system without using one of its remaining standard roster spots. Johnson has averaged 3.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.9 minutes over his two NBA seasons while shooting 53.1% from the field.

The Heat are still shaping the rest of their roster after a major offseason that included the acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo. Miami finished 43-39 in 2025-26, placing 10th in the Eastern Conference before entering the Play-In Tournament.

That distinction made Johnson’s contract situation important. Bringing him back on a two-way deal preserves Miami’s flexibility as it searches for frontcourt depth while keeping a 25-year-old forward who has already spent two seasons in the organization.

Johnson’s role remained limited in 2025-26, but he showed improved three-point shooting during his time with Miami’s NBA roster. His return gives the Heat additional depth on the wing and another player with experience in their developmental system as they prepare for a reshaped 2026-27 roster.

The agreement also reunites Johnson with a team that has undergone substantial changes since last season. Miami’s offseason has centered on building around Antetokounmpo and Adebayo after the franchise finished 17 games behind the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons in 2025-26.

Johnson will now compete for a larger role while the Heat continue completing the roster around their new frontcourt foundation.
