Kevin Durant sparked renewed debate about his career's best rosters during a recent "Boardroom Talks" podcast episode, initially arguing his 2020-21 Brooklyn Nets team surpassed the Golden State Warriors squad he joined in 2016.

"Just looking at straight roster, nothing else? Yeah, I would say Brooklyn," said Durant, citing Kyrie Irving, James Harden and other veteran stars on that roster. "I know people were gonna say the Warriors. 'You had Steph and Klay.' But I'm like, when you look at that team, though, at the time, Steph was an MVP, but Klay and Draymond didn't get the accolades at that time. They were like one-time All-Stars. These Nets dudes I'm talking about had already completed their careers."

Durant pointed to Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Paul Millsap and Patty Mills as examples of the Nets' accumulated star power, though many of those players were well past their primes by the time they joined Brooklyn. Collectively, that group had combined for 38 career All-Star selections and 21 All-NBA selections, excluding Durant, though most of those honors had already been earned in previous seasons.

The 2020-21 Nets finished 48-24 and reached Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Milwaukee Bucks, ultimately losing after Harden and Irving both battled significant injuries. Harden was traded the following February, and the trio played only 16 regular-season games together overall.

By comparison, the Warriors went 67-15 and won the NBA Finals in Durant's first season with Golden State, averaging 60 wins annually and reaching three straight Finals appearances during his three-year tenure, winning two championships.

When later reminded of the 2018-19 Warriors squad that added DeMarcus Cousins, Durant revised his position.

"Well, obviously the best team I played on was the Warriors, the 2019 team was crazy," Durant said. "But we got hurt. With Cousins at the five, that's probably the best team that I've been a part of. I forgot about Cousins. I didn't play with Cousins a lot that year, cause he had got hurt. But when you look at that on paper, it's probably that, yeah."

Durant maintained that the Nets team remained a close second in his estimation, expressing lingering disappointment over never winning a championship in Brooklyn.

"That Brooklyn team is a close second," he said. "It'd have been so dope just seeing a championship parade in Brooklyn. They would've been hating on us so crazy in New York. The parade for real. That's what I think about with that team. All black, all our fans would have been in all black. That's the only thing I think about."
