Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe New York Knicks and several key players have been involved in high-profile extension negotiations this offseason. Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart and Miles McBride have all discussed extensions with New York at various points leading up to the season. Now, the Knicks say they are tabling all extensions talks in order to focus on the upcoming season.
"As an organization, our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering another year for our fans to be proud of. As a result, we will not be negotiating contract extensions until later in the season and will remain solely focused on preparing for the start of the season," a Knicks spokesperson told Shams Charania of ESPN.
Towns, Hart and McBride have all expressed that they want to stay with New York beyond this season. The trio have also said that extension talks haven't gone the way they hoped that they would.
Towns has a $61 million player option for the 2027-28 season. If no agreement is reached on an extension by October 19, Towns would need to decline that option to sign an in-season extension.
The Knicks hold a $22.4 million team option for Hart's contract for the 2027-28 season. Similar to Towns, that team option for Hart would need to be declined to sign an in-season extension, if no extension is reached by October 19.
McBride is on an expiring deal. He's extension-eligible through June 30.
Tyler Kolek is also extension-eligible. The Knicks hold a team option for Kolek for next season. If declined, New York can make Kolek a restricted free agent.
