Leeds United have entered the race to sign a new striker, despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin's red-hot form at the start of the Premier League season.
After being embroiled in a relegation battle for large parts of the 2025-26 season, Leeds have kicked on during the opening stages of the new campaign, taking nine points from their opening five matches, having won two matches and drawn three.
Calvert-Lewin has once again been one of the Whites' most important players, picking up four goals in seven matches across all competitions, and Daniel Farke has been left very impressed by his centre-forward's performances.
Action Images via Reuters/Ed SykesSpeaking after the 4-1 victory against Newcastle United, in which the Englishman scored a brace, Farke said: "Dominic is a crucial player and if he shows this type of form, he’s definitely one of the best strikers in this league. It’s the best league in the world and that more or less sums up what I think about him as a player."
However, Farke is arguably lacking a top-quality back-up for the 29-year-old, with Lukas Nmecha yet to get off the mark last season, after scoring just six Premier League goals last term, while Mateo Joseph remains sidelined after suffering an ACL injury while playing for Mallorca back in April.
As such, the Whites could perhaps do with bringing in a new striker during the January transfer window, and they are now in contention to sign a player who has been in fantastic form in front of goal.

Leeds enter contention to sign Tommy Lonergan
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Leeds have now stormed into the race to sign Waterford striker Tommy Lonergan, and recently watched him in action for Ireland U21s during their surprise 3-1 victory against England last time out.
The 22-year-old bagged a brace to help put the Three Lions to the sword, putting in a stellar performance in front of a number of Premier League scouts, with delegations from Sunderland, Everton, Brentford and Brighton also in attendance.
Not only are a number of Premier League sides now keen, but the Irishman is also attracting attention from the Championship, having put in some very impressive displays for both club and country as of late.
The Waterford star has a combined 20 goals and assists to his name for the League of Ireland side this season, and he was lauded as "exceptional" by Ireland U21s manager Jim Crawford after scoring two goals against England.
However, Lonergan is still yet to prove himself in a major European league, and scored just one goal in 20 matches during his time with Fleetwood Town, so it is unclear whether he would be able to hit the ground running at Elland Road.
