Since the Toronto Blue Jays acquired Luis Urias from the Arizona Diamondbacks on June 20, he has been quietly productive as an impactful depth piece.

In the Blue Jays' 3-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Monday night, he hit a game-tying solo shot in the top of the third inning that went 416 feet deep to center field. 

The utility infielder is batting .237/.326/.500 across 19 games for the Blue Jays with three home runs and an .826 OPS. The 29-year-old veteran has so far proved to be a solid right-handed power bat coming off the bench. With his versatility, he's capable of covering second, third and shortstop, serving as a valuable infield depth option. 

He's been a successful low-risk acquisition who has provided an immediate impact with his bat. In his debut with the Blue Jays on June 23 against the Houston Astros, he went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run. 

Luis Urias has surpassed expectations for the Blue Jays

Following a strong minor league stint with the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks Triple-A affiliate), where he batted .361/.393/.546, Urias has reestablished himself as a reliable contributor in his short time with the Blue Jays. 

Across his 11 starts, he has four runs scored and five walks drawn with nine hits across 38 at-bats. With the Blue Jays' injury-riddled season, having Urias as a depth piece has already been useful. 

Urias was initially utilized to fill a gap when All-Star Ernie Clement was sidelined with hip soreness on June 23. So if another infield injury were to arise, Urias would be the go-to option as a replacement. 

It has to feel good for Urias considering the Blue Jays' struggles and how wins have been hard to come by. If he can continue to provide clutch right-handed power, Blue Jays fans will likely be seeing more of Urias, who has been a bright spot in the bottom order of the lineup along with Myles Straw.
