Manchester United have now emerged as serious contenders to sign RB Leipzig's David Raum, as an alternative to Newcastle United's Lewis Hall.
Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, Ben Jacobs revealed United have been offered the chance to sign three left-backs after facing rejection in their pursuit of Hall.
REUTERS/Scott HeppellThe RB Leipzig defender is alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly and Jorge Salinas on the shortlist, and now looks the most likely candidate, having received major plaudits from Lamine Yamal during the 2024-25 season.
"David Raum has been the toughest opponent I've had to face. In the Euros, against Germany, he was tough to beat. A solid defender."
Not only is the 28-year-old solid defensively, but he also poses a threat on the front foot, picking up three goals and seven assists in 30 Bundesliga matches for RB Leipzig last season.
In fact, the German created a whopping 96 chances in the Bundesliga, which was 40 more than any other member of the RB Leipzig squad, with a tally of 22 big chances created also ranking him in first place.
For reference, only Bruno Fernandes, who set a new record by picking up 21 assists, created more chances for the Red Devils in the Premier League last season.

With the RB Leipzig captain very experienced at international level, collecting 39 caps for Germany, he could also be much more capable of making an immediate impact at United, when compared to Salinas, who is still very young at just 19-years-old.
Man Utd serious contenders to sign David Raum
REUTERS/Vincent CarchiettaAccording to a report from TEAMtalk, Man United are now serious contenders to sign Raum, and if they make a £30m offer for the left-back, RB Leipzig may be inclined to cash-in this summer.
That is because the defender's contract is set to expire at the end of next season, which means this could be their last opportunity to offload him for a relatively big fee.
United have a good relationship with the German side, as director of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, used to work for RB Leipzig, and he remains a big fan of Raum.
During his time in Germany, Vivell said: "David has developed brilliantly in the past two years and established himself as a regular for club and country during his first season in the Bundesliga. He's quick, dynamic, can strike the ball and is extremely dangerous from set pieces and crosses."
Salinas would be a more affordable option than the RB Leipzig star, as he has a £13.7m release clause in his Racing Santander contract. but Raum should be United's top target at left-back.
