It may only be two games into Matthias Jaissle’s tenure as Newcastle United boss, but the German has already handed the supporters a reason to be excited about the 2026/27 season.

A hard-fought draw with Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League and a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup has seen an unbeaten start to the 38-year-old’s tenure.

He’s already got the Magpies playing some lovely free-flowing attacking football, whilst also being able to operate on the counter - as seen with Anthony Elanga’s goal on Sunday.

However, one other player could have a huge role to play during Jaissle’s reign, with the Newcastle faithful getting a good look at one of their new additions last night.

Why Toure could be crucial for Newcastle in 2026/27

Why Newcastle's latest target could make Toure unstoppable

Despite there being just five days left in the summer window, the Newcastle hierarchy are still working hard to land added reinforcements for new boss Jaissle.

Abde Ezzalzouli has constantly been mentioned as one forward target, after talks were held with the player’s representatives over the possibility of a move to Tyneside.

However, he’s not the only forward-thinking player currently in their sights, with Stuttgart attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss another name high up on their shortlist.

Such a report also states that the 22-year-old would also be keen on a move to St James’ Park this summer, but a deal can only be completed if both sides agree on a fee.

However, it could prove to be a bargain should he thrive on Tyneside, with the former Leicester City man having all the tools needed to be a hit in Jaissle’s side.

El Khannouss managed to register a staggering tally of 2.5 chances created per 90 in the Bundesliga last term, which could see the youngster provide Toure with endless opportunities in front of goal.

His subsequent figure also placed him above 93% of other attackers across Europe’s top-five leagues, highlighting his tremendous ability to cause carnage within attacking areas.

The Stuttgart talent also managed to achieve an impressive 32% cross success rate in 2025/26, which, like his chance creation, placed him in the top 15% of players in his position across Europe.

El Khannouss’ ability to provide chances for either was further evident in his tally of 0.5 expected assists per 90 - subsequently showcasing that he should have had an assist in every other game.

Toure could be the beneficiary of such quality in the final third, which could see the duo linking up and handing Jaissle a debut campaign to remember on Tyneside.

The player’s desire to move to the Premier League this summer only bodes well for the Magpies, who are still in desperate need of added depth in forward areas.
