Evangelos Marinakis is ready to back Vitor Pereira with a Nottingham Forest move for one Crystal Palace star, according to reports.

Forest are expected to be active in the transfer market again this summer as Pereira looks to strengthen a squad that narrowly avoided relegation last season.

After steering Forest to Premier League safety, Pereira is now preparing for what could be one of the club's most important transfer windows in recent years.

Owner Marinakis is understood to be prepared to support the Portuguese coach, with several positions already being assessed ahead of the new campaign.

One name linked with Forest this week is Galatasaray winger Roland Sallai.

Reports have suggested the Reds are considering an ambitious move for the Hungary international, who remains highly regarded across Europe despite the Turkish club's desire to keep him.

Elsewhere, Forest have also continued to be linked with attacking reinforcements as Pereira looks to add greater firepower to a side that struggled for goals at times during the relegation battle.

That search for a striker has now brought a familiar name back into focus.

Nottingham Forest reignite Mateta interest with full Marinakis backing

According to Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Forest are once again exploring a move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta after failing to secure his signature earlier this year.

Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta

The report claims Forest are considering a fresh approach, with Marinakis prepared to support Pereira's push for a new centre-forward.

The renewed interest comes after Forest made a serious effort to sign Mateta during the January transfer window, when the club tabled a bid worth £35 million for the Frenchman.

Palace ultimately resisted the approach and held out for a higher fee, with Mateta later failing a medical to join AC Milan.

At 29, the striker offers a combination of Premier League experience, physical presence and proven goalscoring ability that would immediately strengthen Forest's attack.

Forest's interest also makes sense when viewed through the lens of last season.

The January pursuit of Mateta reflected a belief that the squad needed a more reliable focal point in attack, and that assessment appears unchanged heading into the summer.

Mateta has been one of Palace's most important players in recent years.

The French forward played a key role in Palace's success during the Glasner era and established himself as one of the Premier League's more effective centre-forwards.

His performances attracted interest from several clubs, including Milan and Juventus, alongside Forest.

The financial side of the deal will be crucial.

Jean-Philippe Mateta of Crystal Palace

Football Insider reports Forest are looking at a move worth around £25 million, a figure lower than the offers discussed in January. Whether Crystal Palace would be prepared to negotiate at that level remains unclear, particularly given Mateta's importance to the squad.

However, Marinakis' willingness to back Pereira financially could prove significant.

The Forest owner has consistently shown a readiness to invest when the club identifies priority targets, and the latest report suggests securing a new striker remains one of the board's main objectives this summer.
