If Newcastle United had to sum up their summer transfer window in one word, 'breathless' might just do it.

Remarkably, the Magpies have reached the finish line in a strong position, four points and two strong performances against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur under their belt to start things off in the Premier League, with Matthias Jaissle's swaggering style suggesting that he has what it takes to lift this outfit back into the limelight.

The 38-year-old needed to be backed in the transfer market, though, and in fairness, he has at that, with the Toon piecing themselves back together after so many summer setbacks.

At the end, Matias Fernandez-Pardo proved the jewel in the crown for the new regime, arriving as the Magpies' new talisman in attack for a £51m fee on deadline day.

Hailed for his 'courage and exposiveness' by Jaissle, The Belgium international had emerged as the Tynesiders' top summer transfer target way back in May, and for once, finally, the Toon have beaten away intense competition for his signature, landing themselves a versatile and direct attacker who has genuine world-class potential.

In Ligue 1 last season, the 21-year-old scored eight goals and supplied five assists. He boasts searing speed and a cutting edge in front of goal that evaded Newcastle at times last season.

However, he may not be the club's de facto attacking superstar for long. It's certainly no reason to panic, though, with the Toon having already completed a deal for a young forward with the potential to become one of the world's best.

It's funny how quickly things can change in football. Newcastle looked condemned for an eternity of suffering only one month ago, but they have rebounded emphatically after one month of Jaissle's tutelage.

The Georgian prospect, regarded as 'the next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia' in his homeland, is one of Europe's most exciting up-and-comers, and Newcastle beat the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid to his signature last season, welcoming him from Dinamo Tbilisi in 2025, a deal agreed one year earlier. He remained in Georgia until his 18th birthday.

Injuries ruined Salia's first year on Tyneside after his big move, but he has certainly found form from the get-go since recovering, scoring three goals and registering an assist across only four appearances. But he is certainly an "elite talent", so says reporter Bence Bocsak.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has even seen it fit to label him as "one of the best teenage prospects in the world", something that will be corroborated as the campaign deepens. Who knows, Jaissle might even decide to unleash Salia in the Premier League at intervals throughout the term.

The dynamic attacker is getting better and better, and with such an innate goalscoring ability, there's no question that he could be one of the best in the business. He has an explosive switch that can flick on at any given moment, and his technical and tactical understanding belies his age.

In this, he could end up overtaking Fernandez-Pardo, who is also a promising goalscorer and favours centre-forward, albeit with speed and athleticism that allows him to play deeper and out wide.

Fernandez-Pardo will be sure to make the bigger impact on the major stage for Newcastle this season. For £51m, you'd certainly hope so. However, Salia has the potential to outstrip the Belgian, becoming one of the world's very best for a Newcastle side whose ability to pick themselves up after being knocked down is simply remarkable.
