Nottingham Forest are now facing a threat from AS Roma, who have launched an offer to sign Givairo Read. The right-back has already agreed personal terms with Forest, but this saga could still have plenty of twists to come.

Those in the Midlands have looked in pole position to sign the Feyenoord man in recent weeks. They submitted not one, not two but three offers to secure Read's arrival. Despite constant rejection, they have not given up with their latest offer reaching the €23m (£20m) mark.

As Oliver Glasner prepares to get his tenure underway, Read makes perfect sense as a target. A player who can play both left-back and right-back would add significant depth to the Austrian's back five system.

It was Daniel Munoz who thrived in Glasner's system at Crystal Palace. The South American enjoyed the license to get forward and certainly made an impact when doing so.

Read can thrive in the same role. At right-back last season, the 20-year-old enjoyed more than four touches in the opposition's box per 90 and actually ended the campaign with four goal involvements in the Eredivisie. A position change to right wing-back would only enhance his potential.

What seemed like a routine deal for Nottingham Forest may yet prove to be a lot more complicated, however.

AS Roma launch Givairo Read hijack on Nottingham Forest

According to FR.12.nl in the Netherlands, as relayed by Sport Witness, AS Roma have launched an offer to sign Read, outbidding the two offers by Nottingham Forest.

It leaves the Tricky Trees on red alert after already agreeing personal terms with the right-back. It would be a major blow if they missed out on a player who is keen to join.

Whether those in the Midlands up their offer for a fourth time after seeing their latest £20m bid rejected is now the big question. There's no denying that they've already done more than enough leg work to continue their chase.

There's also a big decision for Read to make, himself. As things stand, he's got an agreement on personal terms with Forest, but it won't take long before he's presented with an offer from Roma. He must choose between the Serie A and the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest plotting Beto move

It's all guns blazing from those at the City Ground. Alongside Read, they've also got an eye on Everton's Beto. The forward has popped up on their radar as they consider attacking reinforcements.

The Everton man hasn't always been consistent on Merseyside, but he did score nine goals in the Premier League last season and would offer Forest plenty of depth behind Chris Wood.

Like Read, the towering forward is one to watch this summer.
