Paddy Donovan is on the brink of another world title shot but will have to avoid any slip ups this evening when he goes up against Tyrone McKenna.

After a split decision loss in his maiden world title bid against Lewis Crocker 12 months ago, Donovan has moved a step closer towards another opportunity after defeating Karen Chukhadzhian by majority decision in Germany in May.

That win saw Donovan become mandatory challenger for the IBF welterweight title which is now held by Liam Paro, but before that match-up may arise, ‘The Real Deal’ first collides with McKenna tonight on the Katie Taylor vs. Flora Pili card at Croke Park in Dublin.

McKenna is known for being in a number of exciting battles throughout his career, and despite several losses in recent years, he heads into the clash with Donovan on the back of a seventh round stoppage win against Dylan Moran last September.

McKenna has also previously shared the ring with the likes of Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis, but Donovan may see it as a good opportunity tonight to make a big statement ahead of his proposed world title shot.

He dropped McKenna with a body shot in the second round, and despite McKenna showing his usual toughness, Donovan continued the onslaught into the fourth round, opening up a huge cut over the eye of McKenna. That prompted the referee to bring in the doctor, who waved off the contest to hand Donovan the win, as he moved a step closer towards his next world title shot.
