New details surrounding Anthony Smith’s arrest paint a horrifying picture of the hours before his detainment by Nebraska police.

Sarpy County (Nebraska) police arrested former UFC title challenger Anthony Smith on Monday on felony charges including terroristic threats, domestic violence, and false imprisonment. Smith, who retired from the UFC following a loss to Zhang Mingyang at UFC Kansas City last year, has transitioned into a full-time television analyst since hanging up the gloves.

After posting a $500,000 bond, Smith was released from prison under the condition that he doesn’t contact his wife. If convicted, Smith faces up to 20 years in prison.

TMZ‘s initial reporting of Smith’s arrest earlier this week didn’t publicize many details surrounding what led up to his detainment. In a recent statement to MMA Junkie, the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office shared details of the allegations made against Smith.

According to authorities, Smith is accused of threatening to kill his wife if he didn’t return home with him after a bar altercation in Gretna, Nebraska. Smith then allegedly grabbed her, pushed her into his vehicle, before she attempted to escape numerous times during the drive.

Smith also allegedly attempted to run over his wife with his car, but she was luckily able to maneuver and avoid additional physical harm. A warrant was then issued for Smith’s arrest before the former UFC star turned himself in.

As of this writing, neither Smith nor his management have issued a statement on his arrest and the ongoing investigation.

Smith returned to Mixed Martial Arts earlier this year in Jorge Masvidal’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA Tournament, defeating Chase Sherman by first-round submission.
