Rangers are looking to improve their attack during the January transfer window, and there could be an opportunity to sign a forward on a free transfer.

It was a slow start to the Derek McInnes era, but things finally started to click just prior to the international break, with the Gers defeating bitter rivals Celtic twice on the bounce, most recently running out 1-0 winners at Parkhead in the Scottish Premiership.

Speaking after the game, McInnes said: "In the context of the season, it's just three points and it gets us three points closer to Celtic. We understood if we lost the game, that distance just starts to feel uncomfortable for us.

"It's still very early on. There's still 80-odd points to play for but I do think that winning here, particularly because we've got a young team, can only give them some much-needed confidence and belief on the back of last week."

There is still work to be done, as McInnes' side are two points adrift of the Hoops, who remain at the summit of the table, having won six of their opening seven matches.

Although there has been an uptick in results and performances for the Gers, they haven't been particularly proficient going forward, scoring eight goals in seven Scottish Premiership outings, and they are now looking to make another addition to their attack.

Rangers plotting January move for Oskar Fallenius

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Rangers are now plotting a January move for Djurgården winger Oskar Fallenius, who could be available on a free transfer this winter, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of December.

Celtic have also targeted Fallenius previously, and he is now open to a fresh challenge, after spending over three years with the Swedish side.

The Gers are expected to back McInnes in the January transfer window, and the Swedish winger's potential availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive proposition, having regularly provided goals and assists during his time with Djurgården.

The 24-year-old has a combined seven goals and assists to his name in 22 matches across all competitions this season, and he is capable of playing on both flanks, according to manager Jani Honkavaara, who said: "He can play on both wings. But now he scored a hat-trick in yesterday's training (on Thursday) from the left side so he will play there. But he can play on both wings, just like Jeppe (Okkels)."

However, Fallenius is yet to pick up a cap for Sweden, and hasn't proven himself in one of Europe's major leagues, so he may not be able to hit the ground running immediately at Ibrox.
