And breathe. Yes, Glasgow Rangers may have made hard work of it, but they got there in the end, leaving it late to secure a vital 1-0 win on Wednesday night.

Up against an in-form St Mirren side, the hosts were lively in the first-half, yet simply couldn't provide the finishing touch, with Derek McInnes' men perhaps suffering from the absence of sidelined skipper, Lawrence Shankland.

The Gers were far less threatening after the break, however, with it taking until stoppage time before they registered a shot on target in that stuttering second half.

Thankfully, that was all that was needed to eventually make the breakthrough, with substitute Bojan Miovski popping up to save the day and spare the blushes of his teammates.

How Miovski saved the day against St Mirren

Linked with an exit heading into the final stages of deadline day, it looked like the end was nigh for Miovski in Glasgow, following a disappointing debut campaign last time out.

The ex-Aberdeen man had scored 13 times in all competitions across 2025/26, yet just seven of those came in the Premiership, having drifted into almost forgotten-man territory of late.

Well, lady luck may well be on his side, with the cruel injury setbacks for Youssef Chermiti and the aforementioned Shankland offering Miovski a route back into the starting fold at Ibrox.

As he showed against the Buddies, the Macedonian truly is a natural goalscorer, someone who can be so deadly inside the penalty area.

Does anyone else among the Rangers contingent score that goal? Shankland aside, the answer is likely to be no, the 27-year-old latching onto Ryan Naderi's flick-on before producing a delightful dink over the onrushing goalkeeper.

It was calm and coolness personified, the type of goal that had become the norm for Miovski during his time at Pittodrie.

With the Old Firm looming, he's certainly given McInnes plenty to think about, not least following a mixed night for the rest of the home side's forward line.

Why McInnes needs to be ruthless with struggling Rangers star

Even if it all got a little nervy late on, there was initially plenty to like about that Rangers performance, particularly in the first half.

New man Badradine Bouanani was particularly lively off the right flank, while Djeidi Gassama was a handful himself on the opposite side, even if he remained relatively wasteful in terms of that final ball or shot.

In all, the Gers created four 'big chances' and had 13 shots in that opening 45 minutes, with McInnes likely to have been scratching his head at the inability to beat an undoubtedly inspired Jacob Chapman in the St Mirren goal.

Perhaps part of the issue was the woes of those leading the line for the Light Blues, with £9m man Kevin Kelsy enduring a tough first start following his arrival from Portland Timbers, while the aforementioned Naderi was largely found wanting.

Kelsy's performance, considering his recent entrance, can largely be excused, yet this felt like more of the same for Naderi, even if he was involved in Miovski's winning goal.

The young German had also been the difference off the bench against Motherwell last time out, yet his record of six goals in 20 games for the club isn't too inspiring for a player who cost almost £5m.

He's awkward and unconventional at times, with Wednesday offering another example of his shortcomings, having struggled to really combine with new man Kelsy ahead of him.

Indeed, the 23-year-old squandered a key opening himself in the early stages, while registering just one key pass all game, recording a measly 54% pass accuracy rate.

That's a particularly poor return for a player operating behind the main central striker, as was his record of having lost the ball once every 2.4 touches.

A last-gasp assist can't mask those struggles, with Naderi also winning just ten of his 22 total duels, hardly offering much in the way of a physical presence despite his towering frame.

Of course, as already noted, Kelsy wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders himself, yet the Venezuelan did win five of his six aerial duels, while recording a 76% pass accuracy rate, showing at least a glimpse of what he can offer through the middle.

In Naderi's case, he's well over six months into his Ibrox stint, and yet he remains a difficult one to figure out, still looking at odds with the physicality and pace of the Premiership right now.

With the derby looming, and with Miovski back among the goals, don't be surprised to see the German back on the bench this weekend.
