Sunderland make offer for ex-Derby County sensation Archie Brown

According to Turkish outlet Sporx, Sunderland have submitted a bid Fenerbahçe for left-back Archie Brown.

The 23-year-old Englishman joined the Turkish giants from Belgian side Gent for around £7m last July and made 38 appearances across all competitions in his debut season, scoring five goals and registering seven assists.

In the Süper Lig alone, he contributed three goals and three assists from 25 appearances — an impressive return for a defender operating in an unfamiliar league.

Brown came through the academy at Derby County before moving to Swiss side Lausanne-Sport and then Gent, where his performances in the Belgian top flight and Europa Conference League earned the attention of Fenerbahçe.

He was an England Under-20 international with two caps and a goal, stands at 6ft 3in, and is left-footed — a profile that fits neatly into what Sunderland need on the left side of their defence.

His contract at Fenerbahçe runs until 2028, giving the Turkish club a strong negotiating position.

However, Sporx report that the current Fenerbahçe hierarchy are awaiting the outcome of the club's upcoming presidential elections before making a final decision on Brown's future, which could create an opening for interested parties to push ahead.

Sunderland are not the only club in the frame. Nottingham Forest and Atlético Madrid are also tracking Brown closely, and competition for his signature could intensify as the window approaches.

Forest have their own summer plans underway under Vitor Pereira, while Atlético's involvement adds a European heavyweight to the race.

For Sunderland, securing a player of Brown's age and versatility would be a shrewd bit of intent heading into a season where they will be juggling domestic and European commitments for the first time.

Le Bris has earned the right to dream, and the board appear ready to back him.
