Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Los Angeles Dodgers got their attempt at a World Series three-peat started with a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS, but a 3-2 Atlanta win in Game 2 sends the series back to the Peach State tied 1-1.
Game 3 features one of the premier pitching matchups this postseason has to offer, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Chris Sale facing off for the first time since their pitcher’s duel back in August. Yamamoto allowed just one run and five hits with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings against Atlanta on August 27, but was one-upped by Sale’s 11 Ks in his first complete game shutout since 2019 in a 1-0 Braves victory.
Sale has already made his presence felt this postseason for Atlanta, but it’s just the first start of the postseason for the 2025 World Series MVP. Yamamoto has been worth every penny for the Dodgers in his first two Octobers, making nine starts and 10 total appearances with a 2.25 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 56 innings. Now, he’s tasked with helping LA avoid a do-or-die Game 4 in Atlanta on Wednesday.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. Yamamoto has shown on multiple occasions he can win a game essentially on his own, throwing a complete game twice last October. With that being said, can you name the most recent pitcher to throw a complete game for each MLB franchise?
Good luck!
Note: The Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays have never had a pitcher throw a nine-inning complete game in the MLB playoffs.
