Arsenal are eager to strengthen their attack this summer, with Mikel Arteta looking to reshuffle his forward line, as Leandro Trossard could be set to join Besiktas.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who said: "Don't forget about Arsenal, about the winger, because Arsenal will sign an important winger in the summer transfer window. That's for sure. I told you several times, it's not based on the who is going, who is staying. In any case, Arsenal will sign a top winger. Leandro Trossard could go to Besiktas, an agreement, club to club, 18 million euros plus two."
Amid Trossard's impending departure, the Gunners have been going after Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, with talks regarding a deal for the £130m-rated England international currently ongoing.
There has now been a further update on the north Londoners' pursuit of Rogers, which suggests they could be in a strong position to get a deal done.
Arsenal frontrunners to sign Morgan Rogers
According to a report from Caught Offside, Arsenal are now leading the race to sign the Aston Villa star, who has been identified as their priority target in attack.
The 23-year-old is now ready to sign for Arteta's side, and even though the Villans' £130m price tag is proving to be prohibitive, an opening offer is expected to be made within days.
|
Arsenal's interest in Rogers is very well-known, with Arteta in need of a new winger, given the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli. Newcastle United have now held talks to sign the Brazilian. |
|
However, it is clear to see why they have thus far been unwilling to stump up the £130m asking price. That fee would make Rogers the third-most expensive player of all-time, behind Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. |
|
The 23-year-old enjoyed his most prolific Premier League season to date in 2025-26, scoring ten goals in 37 appearances, while also grabbing seven assists. The Englishman often features on the left, meaning he could slot right in as a replacement for Martinelli. |
|
If Arsenal decide to go all out to sign Rogers, they may have to end their pursuit of Barcola, with PSG now demanding a whopping £128m. |
Why Morgan Rogers could be an upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli
The Villa attacker amassed a combined 17 goal involvements in the Premier League last season, compared to just five from Martinelli, who picked up one goal and four assists.
Moreover, the Brazil international only created four big chances, compared to 13 from Rogers, who was one of Villa's most consistent players, featuring for 3,285 minutes in the Premier League, the most of any player in Unai Emery's squad.
Martinelli, on the other hand, only featured for 1,073 minutes, with Arteta limiting his winger's game time in light of him failing to make a major impact.
As such, Rogers could be a real upgrade on Arsenal's current left-winger, and it is promising news that a bid may be lodged in a matter of days.
