Nottingham Forest are looking to improve their midfield this summer, following Elliot Anderson's departure to Manchester City.
The England star joined City in a £116m deal, which indicates the Tricky Trees should have plenty of money to bring in a replacement, and they have already made the first move to sign Liverpool's Curtis Jones.
However, they have also set their sights on a midfielder who has caught the eye at the World Cup, namely Mauricio, who represents Paraguay, with the Palmeiras star featuring in four games, before his side were eliminated by France at the round of 16 stage.
Journalist Rafael Oliva described the Brazil-born midfielder as one of Paraguay's "standout" players, and explained Palmeiras would be open to a sale should the right offer arrive.

Nottingham Forest certainly need to sign a new midfielder, following Anderson's exit. However, Mauricio would perhaps be a risky option, considering he is yet to test himself in Europe. |
|
Palmeiras are expected to demand around £19m - £22m for the 25-year-old, which would be relatively expensive for a player who has played in Brazil for his entire career. However, the Tricky Trees should be able to splash the cash, having raised £116m from selling Anderson. |
|
The Palmeiras star has primarily featured in an advanced midfield role throughout his career to date, registering 18 goals and 13 assists in 105 appearances for the Brazilian club. With that in mind, he may not be a like-for-like Anderson replacement, as the Englishman plays in a deeper position. |
|
As such, Mauricio may be more suited to challenging for Morgan Gibbs-White's starting spot, with the 26-year-old primarily featuring in a more attacking role. |
Nottingham Forest showing interest in signing Mauricio
According to journalist Diego Firmino (via Sport Witness), Forest are now keen on signing Mauricio, having joined the race for his signature alongside some unnamed clubs from Italy.
Crucially, Palmeiras are willing to sanction a sale, and they are expected to hold out for around €22m (£19m) - €25m (£22m).
Why Mauricio could challenge for Gibbs-White's place in the side
Like Gibbs-White, the Sao Paulo-born maestro is a versatile player, who is able to be deployed through the middle or on either flank, and he has remained a consistent source of goals and assists throughout his career.
During his time with Sport Club Internacional, the seven-cap Paraguay star picked up 25 goals and 25 assists in 176 matches, and he has since gone on to record 31 goal involvements in 105 matches for Palmeiras.
That said, while he did catch the eye at the World Cup, scoring against the USA, it is perhaps a little concerning the former Internacional man is still yet to play in Europe at the age of 25.
As such, while Mauricio could be capable of pushing for Gibbs-White's spot in the starting XI, he may be a risky addition to Oliver Glasner's squad.
