Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayLooking for the best women’s workout trousers for running that aren’t leggings? You’re not alone. While leggings are a go-to for many runners, they’re not for everyone. If you prefer a looser fit — whether for comfort, coverage, or just personal style — there are plenty of great alternatives out there. From tapered track pants to lightweight joggers and sweat-wicking trail trousers, we’ve rounded up the best women’s workout trousers that offer freedom of movement without clinging too tight.
What to look for in women’s workout trousers for running
Look for lightweight, breathable fabrics that wick away sweat to help keep you dry on the run. A bit of stretch in the fabric will allow for a full range of movement and stop you feeling constricted, while a tapered or cuffed leg can help prevent any flapping or tripping mid-stride.
A good waistband is also key; you want something that stays put without digging in. Pockets are also essential, especially if you like to carry keys, a phone or gels.

What our tester said:
“I found the quality of the product to be exceptional. I loved the look and feel and the colour is perfect and goes with most of my running tops and jackets. The trousers were super comfortable and it fits me well albeit my curves. I particularly like the dry fit material which meant I felt dry during my run. The trousers are perfect for modest dressing or on a cold day and a great alternative to leggings.
“I felt the price of the trousers to be a bit on the high side at £68 so whilst I would buy them, I would probably wait until the sales for a reduced price. All in all, top on performance and feel and they look good too.”
Tracksmith Session Pants
Price: £125
Sizes: XS to XL

What our tester said:
“These bottoms have become a welcome addition to my running wardrobe – they’re the kit I never knew I needed. Over the winter I’ve worn them to cross country over my shorts and kept them on while I’ve done a mile or two warm-up jog.
“They’re lightweight and easy to move in. The fabric looks like a jogger/trouser but performs well when running and has a good amount of stretch in them. They could easily be worn as running trousers if you don’t fancy leggings or shorts.”
Janji Transit Tech Pants
Price: £80
Sizes: XS to XXL

What our tester said:
“These are very comfortable trousers with a good amount of stretch in the fabric to make them easy to move in. I tried a size small and I found they came up a little large on me (I’m a size 10) in the waist and hip. So while I could run in them, I didn’t want to carry anything in the pockets that could add weight.
“They are wind and water resistant, which was great when I was heading out for a run in the drizzle. My only complaint about these trousers is that they are slightly noisier than the other pair I tried – but stick your headphones and you won’t notice it.”
BAM Horizon Pleated Yoga Joggers
Price: £65
Sizes: 8-16

What our tester said:
“Whether you’re a yoga babe or not – and, really, we all should be – these joggers will be a welcome addition to your wardrobe. They’re so soft and light, made from BAM’s lovely bamboo-based fabric, that I can’t wait to chuck them on after a tough run or a sweaty strength session. They’re a mainstay in my gym bag!
“As you’d expect, I’ve mostly worn them for yoga sessions, and I’ve been reaching for them more than my leggings; with a cuffed ankle and high waist, they stay put without limiting my freedom of movement at all. They’re a little thicker than BAM’s standard yoga pants, so perfect for cosy recovery sessions. I just wish they came in a few more colours.”
