Carrington said Inoue’s win over Junto Nakatani strengthened his confidence in the matchup

Bruce Carrington says he is ready to fight Naoya Inoue immediately if the undisputed champion moves to featherweight. Carrington believes Inoue’s win over Junto Nakatani confirmed he has the style to trouble the Japanese star.

Inoue defended his undisputed super bantamweight championship against Nakatani in one of the biggest fights ever staged in Japan. The victory pushed his record even higher and increased discussion about who could eventually challenge him if he moves to 126 pounds.

Carrington said watching Naoya Inoue defeat Junto Nakatani only strengthened his belief that he has the style to beat him.

“To be honest, I saw a lot of things that I can’t really say on here,” said Carrington to ESNEWS. “I’ve been ready. Inoue is still a spectacular fighter, but I just know I have what it takes to beat him.”

Carrington added that he would accept the fight whenever it becomes available.

“100%. I’m ready right now, I’m ready today, I’m ready tomorrow, I’m ready whenever,” Carrington said. “Come to the Shu Shu show, baby. I can’t wait to share the ring with you. It’s gonna be fireworks.”

Carrington captured the WBC featherweight title earlier this year and is scheduled to defend it against Rene Palacios in July. A victory there could leave him in position for one of the biggest fights in boxing if Inoue follows through with plans to move up again.

Inoue has already indicated that he wants one more fight at super bantamweight before heading to featherweight. A clash against Jesse Rodriguez has been widely discussed as the likely final fight of his run at 122 pounds.

The possibility of Inoue moving to featherweight has already created growing interest across the division, with Carrington becoming one of the first champions at 126 pounds to openly campaign for the fight.
