The Chicago Bulls are trading point guard Rob Dillingham to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for shooting guard Buddy Hield and cash considerations.

The acquisition of Hield will push Chicago over the salary cap. The Bulls had been operating with about $1.9 million in remaining cap space. Chicago still has the full $9.4 million room exception remaining.

Both teams are still operating well below the luxury tax line post-trade. The Bulls are $34.6 million under the tax, while the Hornets are $25.6 million under the tax.

Dillingham has yet to find his footing after two NBA season. Following a midseason trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Bulls, the 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 9.6 points in 21.5 minutes per game.

This is the latest in a series of trades for Hield. He's moved from the Atlanta Hawks to the Hornets and now to the Bulls.

It's unclear if either Dillingham or Hield will make the opening night roster for either team. Hield has more of a chance, as the Bulls are already carrying one open standard roster spot. The Hornets are three players over the regular season maximum of 15 players on standard contracts. Neither player has guaranteed money long-term, making this a no-risk trade for both Charlotte and Chicago.
