Conah Walker’s route to a Ryan Garcia fight appears to run through X. Talks for a clash with Brian Norman Jr. stalled, and Walker is now telling the WBC welterweight champion that Conor Benn was not Britain’s best at 147 pounds. The timing makes the callout look like cheap publicity rather than a legitimate title push.

“Interesting Ryan Garcia saying nobody wants to fight him,” Walker wrote on X. “I can you tell you right now you didn’t even fight the best welterweight in the UK in your last fight. If you want some smoke I’m ready when you are son.”

Brian Norman Jr.’s manager Adrian Clark now offers a more specific account of why that fight stalled. In a post tagging Walker and Matchroom, Clark wrote that they “sent over the contract we negotiated then said, nah.” If accurate, the Norman side had a negotiated contract in hand before Walker’s side declined to proceed. Walker and Matchroom have not publicly explained the decision. Calling out Ryan while that question hangs over him makes his challenge much harder to take seriously.

Norman represented a punishing test for Walker’s standing. Conquering that hurdle would have forced the division to take him seriously. Shouting Ryan’s name on social media requires zero courage. It is an empty gimmick that fools nobody.

Walker’s claim regarding Britain’s premier welterweight falls apart under scrutiny. Lewis Crocker battered Walker on the cards in 2024 on his way to seizing the IBF crown. Stopping Sam Eggington in May proved Walker can entertain, but that brawl did nothing to avenge the Crocker defeat.

Ryan needed only two rounds to blast Benn out on September 12. Walker can dispute Benn’s credentials all day. That debate does not crown Walker king of the division, especially with the Norman cancellation hanging over his head.

Securing Ryan provides generational money. Earning that spot requires entering dangerous rings, not typing out cheap callouts. Walker needs to resolve the Norman mess before he expects the sport to take his demands seriously.

Walker may already have another fight in view. Dan Rafael reported Tuesday, citing a source, that Walker is lined up to headline against Alexis Rocha on December 5 in Wolverhampton. There has been no official announcement. If the bout is finalized, it would give Walker a chance to strengthen his case in the ring after the Norman talks stalled.

For now, calling out Ryan is the easy part. Walker still has to show why the champion should choose him over the bigger names he is pursuing.
