Former world title challenger, Dilian Whyte, was halted by Moses Itauma inside two minutes of their fight last August. Now, ‘The Body Snatcher’ has revealed that he was carrying a major injury in that bout.

Itauma headlined a card for the first time when he collided with Whyte in Riyadh, but many noted that the Brixton-born veteran looked despondent during his walk to the ring, notably refusing to do his trademarked pre-fight wolf howl as he walked towards the ring.

Now, in an interview with Sky Sports, Whyte has revealed that he fractured his foot during a sparring session in training camp, ahead of the short-lived pay-per-view clash.

“I was running and I felt it [my foot] and then I went to spar and I was sparring big, agile guys and someone was pressing me, I stepped back the wrong way and then it just fractured clean.”

Whyte then went on to say that he fractured his foot once again during his fight night warm-up, but maintained that he was still confident of springing the upset and defeating Itauma in a similar fashion to how Filip Hrgovic did last month.

“I started warming up, jumped a little bit of rope, and then re-injured the foot. Completely fractured it again.”

“We had to call the doctor who was with me to examine it. He advised me not to fight and I said ‘no’. There’s no way I’m going to come all the way to Saudi and not fight last minute.

“I was confident that I would still be able to drag Moses into the later rounds and stop him as [Filip] Hrgovic recently did.”

Whyte has not fought since that defeat to the youngster, but he is now being linked to a return on a Zuffa Boxing card, where he is targeting a showdown with fellow British heavyweight, Johnny Fisher.
